Kirinyaga County lies on the southern slope of the highest mountain in the country – Mt.Kenya
Due to the altitude, 1500 – 1560 m.a.s.l, fertile volcanic soils and tropical climate,
coffee from Kirinyaga is considered one of the best in Kenya, boasting smooth body and vibrant acidity.

 

Kegwa factory is part of the Ngiriambu Cooperative Society established in 1997 as a coffee and marketing society.
Today Ngiriambu comprises over 4500 registered members to which provides support and services supported by two coffee processing factories Kiri and Kegwa. The latter was founded in 1979 serves 1900 small scale farmers within the Njukiini location in Kirinyaga county at the slopes of Mt Kenya. The factory borders Njukiini forest hence the microclimate is very cool throughout the year.

The area experiences bimodal rainfall each year with temperatures ranging 10-26 degrees which is adequate for the coffee. The long rains are experienced in March-May right during the flowering for the maincrop.

Due to the altitude (farms are located at 1500 – 1560 m.a.s.l.), fertile volcanic soils and tropical climate, coffee from Kirinyaga is considered one of the best in Kenya, boasting smooth body and vibrant acidity.

In partnership with the local government and developing partners Ngiriambu offers trainings on good agricultural practices, environment conservative measures, coffee wet mills maintenance based on all recommended standards, strictly enhancing on fairtrade standards.
